Yesterday the United States lost one of our greatest heroes. John Glenn was one of the original seven Mercury astronauts. He set the transcontinental speed record, flying from LA to NYC in 3hrs 23mins. In 1962 he piloted the Friendship 7 and became the first American to orbit Earth. He served as a United States Senator for 4 terms. During his last term as senator, at the age of 77, he became the oldest man to go back to space.
John Glenn was always a hero of mine growing up. Getting the opportunity to watch him go back to space when I was 8 will be something I'll always cherish. His sense of curiosity inspires me each and every day. Rest in Peace.
